You Can Make a Difference
Q.When does a person with paralysis begin a program with Push to Walk?
A.Determining when to join our program depends on individual circumstances. We recommend that anyone who is interested, but unsure if this is the program for them contacts us directly. For those with spinal cord injuries (SCI), we recommend beginning our program directly after the conclusion of outpatient services so that the progress that was achieved in therapy is not lost. As for those with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), starting a program at Push to Walk should begin when their doctor recommends it to be appropriate. Lastly, any person with traumatic brain injury (TBI) who would like to start one of our programs may begin when their body is capable of physical activity, though we still recommend consulting your doctor first.

EVENTS
Fundraising
Casino Night – This event is a Texas Hold’Em tournament run by an outside company, with support from staff. Invite people to the event, obtain sponsorships, donate or obtain prize donations, volunteer to help at the event or just attend and try your hand at poker. Held annually in March.
NJ Marathon – It provides a means to raise money for the PTW programs. The NJ Marathon also provides opportunities for clients to raise funds and help cover their own costs for our services. For more information or to participate, contact Stephanie Lajam at slajam@pushtowalknj.org.
Golf Outing – This is PTW’s largest fundraising event and is held annually in September. Those interested may join us for a fun day of golf including lunch, cocktail hour, and dinner banquet. If you are not a golfer, we invite anyone to join us for the evening. At the dinner, attendees and guests have an opportunity to learn more about PTW and to participate in a live “auction” to help PTW acquire much needed state of the art equipment and other items. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
Beefsteak – This is PTW’s newest event and has become an instant hit. We invite everyone to join us for this social night out. Attendees can enjoy beefsteak, build bread towers, and see if luck is on their side for our 50/50 raffle. The PTW Beefsteak is held in October or November. To purchase tickets, please contact Stephanie Lajam at slajam@pushtowalknj.org or 862-200-5848.
Client Activities
Although clients are encouraged to participate in all of our events throughout the year, our Summer Boot Camp is geared directly towards our clients.
Summer Boot Camp – A week-long event that includes activities every evening to help clients further engage them in PTW and build camaraderie. This is typically held in July. Dates and a schedule of events are typically issued at least a month before the event. Past events have included an ice cream social, adaptive tennis workshop, sled hockey demo, trivia nights, dinners, and outside speakers.
A Letter from Cynthia
Dear Friends,
Thank you for putting your trust in us to help you maintain and improve your health and wellness. Our objective is to provide you with the highest quality program, staff and facility to help you reach your individual goals and live life as independently as possible.
We understand that the cost of our program is difficult for many of our clients and often is the deciding factor in scheduling your sessions. Lots of people never even become clients because of the fees; others are forced to decrease their time or even stop altogether when funds run out. Until a sustainable financial model is found, hourly rates are a necessity. To help you make our program affordable, we are committed to helping you raise the funds you need. Continuing our fundraising initiative is a high priority for Push to Walk and we are devoting ongoing resources specifically to help you.
One of the best ways to raise money for yourself and for Push to Walk workouts is to participate in the NJ Marathon or have friends and family members run for you. Money raised through this event can help you offset the costs of our program. Check out the page “Fundraising: NJ Marathon” for additional information.
This new fundraising plan is designed to give you the information and tools necessary to become a successful fundraiser. We are committed to helping you help yourself in your own fundraising projects, as well as helping Push to Walk with our events. Both go hand in hand, as you need to raise funds to support your expenses, and we need to raise funds to keep our doors open.
Working with each other should provide a successful outcome. Remember, we are all in this together!
Sincerely,
Cynthia Templeton
