In June 2001, Mike was hanging out with some friends at an in-ground pool. He thought that the pool was 6 feet deep but in reality it was only 3 ½ feet deep. When he dove into the pool he hit his head on the bottom. The dive shattered his C-6 vertebrae.

Since then, he has graduated from Rider University with a Bachelor’s degree in Management and a Master’s degree in Finance. He currently works for the Wakefern Food Corporation, ShopRite’s corporate office in Edison, NJ, as a buyer in the frozen foods department.

Mike likes Push to Walk because the trainers always stay positive and they have never said that they can’t help him. He likes that they keep him on track toward whatever goal he sets for himself and that they celebrate any progress as good progress. About his goals, he adds, “I have always been a very determined person throughout my life and if you are determined to reach your goals you will find a way to reach them no matter how you have to go about it.”

At Push to Walk, Mike works on strengthening his core muscles and the leg muscles that he has use of, as well as stimulating his nervous system to gain more movement. In addition to his twice weekly workouts, Mike also uses the FES bike as well. Outside of Push to Walk, Mike goes to another gym 3-4 times a week to lift weights and ride a stationary hand cycle.

Mike is a big sports fan, so he likes to spend a lot of time going to games and watching them on TV. He likes to travel whenever he can to places like Las Vegas and South Beach. He also enjoys spending time with his friends. Additionally, he completed the 2011 and 2012 New Jersey Marathon with Team Push to Walk.

UPDATE: Mike was selected and featured in a documentary called “Mission Possible.”
