FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 26, 2018
Oakland, NJ-Push to Walk, an Oakland based non-profit for people with spinal cord injuries and other forms of paralysis, recently welcomed the return of a Montclair resident to the organization’s staff.
Karla Ruaya of Montclair, New Jersey returned to Push to Walk as a Neuro Exercise Trainer at the end of February 2018. She previously worked for the organization from May 2010 through December 2013 and left to work full time in NYC. She remained involved with the organization during her hiatus by volunteering for fundraising events and conducting adaptive tennis workshops for Push to Walk clients each year. Ms. Ruaya has always remained dedicated to the non-profit and its cause. “It is wonderful to have Karla return to our staff. She brings such passion to her work each and every day and loves what she does. I know the clients are happy to have her back, too, said Cynthia Templeton, Push to Walk Founder and Interim Executive Director.
Upon her return, Karla started off by completing the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation’s three day NeuroRecovery Network (NRN) Locomotor Training Workshop to supplement her training refresher at Push to Walk. “I’m so happy to come back to the same method and principles that we had when Push to Walk first opened its doors, which is to give the best workouts possible and have every client out of their wheelchair and moving,” said Montclair resident and Push to Walk Neuro Exercise Trainer, Karla Ruaya.
Karla received her Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Northern Michigan University and is a American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Exercise Physiologist. She has been personal training for over a decade and is also a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Certified Tennis Professional.
